Lambs Head
At the southern end of the Iveragh Peninsula, lookout post No. 33 is located near Derrynane Bay. A small path leads from Ballyvohane Pier to the building. The associated Eire sign was located 100 metres northwest of the building in a small valley. Today, only the contours are slightly visible under the thick grass. The stones used to mark the ground were later used to build a sheep pen.
Before the large Eire sign was erected, there was originally a smaller Eire sign 100 metres further south. This was later replaced by the larger sign with the number 33.
Thanks to Dermot Mangan, a local resident, the small Eire sign was rediscovered, uncovered and repainted white.
An image simulation shows the former position of the large Eire sign based on old aerial photographs.
