Ballycotton
Today, nothing remains of Lookout Post No. 21 nor of the Eire sign that was usually placed near the lookout posts. Locals still remember the former lookout post, which stood in a field near the Ballycotten Cliff Walk. Today, the hill is covered by an agricultural field. The former post was constructed in a common architectural style using 137 precast concrete sections. A sign for visitors at the car park explains that this cliff walk was used by the coastguard to observe the sea. The published logbooks of the Armed Forces Military Archives provide insight into the activities recorded around the Ballycotton area. www.militaryarchives.ie
