Kilronan Lookout post no. 50 was located on the island of Inishmore. The coast watchers used the Eochaill lighthouse, which is located at the highest point of the island. From here, local coast watchers observed the coast around the island. The lighthouse housed the first telephone connection to the mainland, which was used to send hourly reports to headquarters in Athlone during the war. The logbooks from the lookout post are now publicly available on the Irish Armed Forces website militaryarchives.ie.
One hundred metres below the tower is the associated and well-preserved Eire sign.
