Inishowen Head During the Second World War, an English coastguard station at the north-easternmost point of the Republic of Ireland was briefly used by the Irish Defence Forces Coast Watching Service. From this lookout post no. 82, the coast watchers observed the coast close to the border with Northern Ireland. Their reports are now publicly available on the Irish Defence Forces website militaryarchives.ie. The registration numbers of the observation posts ended here in a clockwise direction. With one exception: lookout post No. 83, which was erected later in County Kerry.
